Whirlpool
salutes Everyday Champion, Colleen Jones.
It’s
not easy being a full-time TV personality, wife, mother and world champion curler,
but bubbly Colleen Jones manages to do it all- and keep her sense of humour!
Her
schedule: As one of Canada’s elite curlers, Colleen Jones
and her team spend approximately 40 days away from home curling between October
and March- that doesn’t even include their weekly practices! And Jones doesn’t
necessarily leave the ice when she’s not curling- with both of her two sons
in net as goaltenders on local hockey teams, she logs many an hour as a hockey-mom
at the local rink. Says Jones, “I probably spend more time on the ice than
Pat Quinn!” And if the thought of getting out of bed everyday before 5:00
am is more frightening to you than getting to sleep at that hour, imagine Colleen’s
schedule! She’s up everyday at 4:45 am and en-route to work where she’s
got to be in front of the camera and looking her best before a national television
audience! Always the eternal optimist, Colleen says that she’s very happy
with her job and uses her free time in the afternoon to shop for groceries and
get her sons to their various hockey practices and games.
Her
goals: Colleen Jones holds more Canadian Championships than any
other curler- and she plans on continuing with this trend. This year’s trip
to the Scott marks her 16th participation in a Canadian Ladies Championship. Her
team strategy and goals for the 2002/2003 curling season include taking it easy
and gaining experience from October until January, and then buckling down and
getting Team Jones to the Scott Tournament of Hearts. From provincial champs to
Canadian champs, and then to the Ford World Championships in the hopes of coming
home with yet another World Championship title.
How
she does it: For Colleen Jones, the secret to maintaining her busy
life as a wife, mother, career woman and champion curle, is by making a point
each day, to do absolutely nothing! Jones explains, “I’m on the go
so much that I make sure to rest whenever I get the chance. I have a “napping
chair” in my kitchen where I’ll have a cup of tea and relax in the
late afternoon, once I have supper together.”
