Whirlpool’s women’s curling teams deliver outstanding results in 2002/2003

The success of the women’s curling teams during 2002-03 curling season can be described as nothing less than remarkable. Whirlpool“ Home Appliances is proud to be a supporter of such talented female athletes in their achievement of the provincial and national championship titles.

Team Colleen Jones

Winning consecutive national championships in 2001/2002, Team C. Jones continued their reign of victory this season by securing numerous tournament titles. In November, Team C. Jones helped North America secure the first-ever Continental Cup in Regina, Saskatchewan then went on to win the Alexander Keith’s Classic in Halifax, Nova Scotia with a score of 6-4. In early December they placed fourth in the JVC/TSN Skins Game in Moncton, New Brunswick and more recently were participants in the Canada Cup, January 8-12 in Kamloops, BC, where Team C. Jones narrowly missed finals qualification with a record of 2-2. We wish Colleen Jones and her team best of luck as they attempt to defend their title at the 2003 Scott Tournament of Hearts national championship in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, February 15-23.

Team Janique Berthelot

Continuing as one of Quebec’s strongest forces, Team Berthelot proved to be difficult competition in recent national events. October saw Team Berthelot secure a qualifying position in the Montreal Open WCT with a score of 4-1 and a finals qualifying spot in the Hyland, OVCA Tour in Ottawa, Ontario with a record of 5-3. November brought more success as Team Berthelot netted prize earnings of $2,000 for their 5-1 triumph at the Cowan-Wright Beauchamp WCT, in Ottawa. To start off the New Year, Team Berthelot secured a winning title in their section at the Scott regionals in Montreal with a 3-1 victory, which places them as competitors for the Scott Provincials in Alma, Quebec, January 18-26, 2003. Whirlpool“ proudly supports Team Berthelot in their quest to reach February’s national championship.

Team Jennifer Jones

As Whirlpool’s newest team of sponsored athletes, Team J. Jones is already setting record-breaking achievements. As the winner of the Stonewall Minute Muffler Classic, November 14-18, in Stonewall, Manitoba, Team J. Jones walked away with $3000 in winnings. Immediately following, they went on to qualify for the finals of the Swan River MCA Scott Berth Spiel, in Manitoba with a record of 5-1, during November 22-24. In December, Team J. Jones qualified for a semi-final position in Virden, Manitoba at the Virden Oiltown Cash Classic and were the winners in their zone in the Scott Zone Playdowns in Winnipeg, Manitoba. With an exceptional second place finish last year, Team J. Jones will be back to battle for the championship title at the Scott Tournament of Hearts Provincials, January 29 to February 2 in Morden, Manitoba. We wish Jennifer and her team the greatest successes in their pursuit for victory in 2003.
