Golf and Lifestyle Survey for Lorie Kane
by Whirlpool Canada Inc.

  1. Why did you start playing golf? What about the game has made it such a lifelong passion?
My dad was the head professional at Brudnell Golf Resort in Prince Edward Island and we had the opportunity to play a lot at a young age. It was a great way to spend time with my dad. As we all know, golf is an individual sport and having grown up playing team sports, it was always nice to have the game all to myself. Whether bad or good, every stroke of every round of each tournament comes from me and that simple fact has made golf my life long passion.

  2. Where is your favorite golf course and why is it your favorite?
My favorite golf course is Wykagl Country Club in New Rochelle which hosts the Sybase Big Apple Classic. It is an old style Donald Ross course and always presents a great challenge. I am also very partial to the courses in Prince Edward Island: Belvedere, Brudnell, Crow Bush.

  3. What was your most exciting moment as a golfer and why?
To date, winning my 1st LPGA tournament in St. Louis has been my most exciting moment as a golfer because of all the hard work put into achieving that goal.

  4. What was your worst moment on the golf course? How did you cope?
Some might say that finishing runner-up in nine tournaments would be classified as my worst moments, but I wholeheartedly disagree. I haven't had any "worst" moments. I really make an effort to learn from my experience and focus on one shot at a time.

  5. Who is your favorite role model? Why?
My favorite female role model in golf is Nancy Lopez. She is an extraordinary woman who has contributed so much to the LPGA Tour and to women's golf. Her accomplishments, personality, work ethic and poise are unrivaled. I am lucky to have Nancy as a dear friend.

In life outside of golf, my mom is my role model. From being a mom, wife, best friend and business woman, she's done it all and shown us the way to success and happiness.

  6. What is the most challenging aspect of balancing your career and your personal life?
The most challenging aspect of balancing my personal and professional life is giving myself enough personal time. With our travel schedule and daily routine, it's often hard to find enough time to spend with friends and family. It's a luxury to find the time to run errands that most people take for granted.

  7. How do you stay grounded in absence of family while on tour?
Thanks to Bell Canada, I am able to stay in touch with my family at least 3-4 times a week. They are all very supportive and encouraging.

  8. How do you keep fit during your busy tour season? What type of exercise do you do off season?
Thanks to my trainer David Donatucci, I'm learning more and more about a necessary fitness routine that caters to my golf game. I've been working out in the off-season and loving it. We do workouts that combine weights, cardio and floor exercises for strengthening core and hips.

  9. How important is a proper diet to you? What do you eat/drink to keep your
energy up when on tour? A proper diet is very important and something I work on every day. I'm trying to learn more about what I should eat to maximize my body's potential. It is an ongoing battle.

  10. What is your one food weakness? Do you indulge or avoid?
My food weakness is Outback Steakhouse. I try to stick to the healthier options on the menu, but admit to an occasional indulgence.

  11. Do you use massages or other natural, spa services will on tour? Why? What is your favorite treatment and why? No.

  12. Do you have any hobbies outside of golf? What are they?
I am an avid hockey fan and really enjoy following all sports.

  13. As Canada's premier female golfer, do you view yourself as a role model to Canadian women? What one tip would you give women golfers to help them succeed and grow the game of golf?
One important tip I would give to women golfers is to visit your local CPGA professional and learn the basic fundamentals of golf. It's time well spent and helpful in the long run. Most importantly, always remember to have fun.
